2011 CORAL SEA ADVENTURE – FLINDERS REEF

Join Jarrod aboard SIR REEL, a purpose built 58’ Conquest

for a Live aboard Sportsfishing trip of a lifetime.

Jump on to experience the Outer Reef (Flinders Reef),

150 nautical miles from Townsville. A variety of

techniques will be used including, trolling, jigging and

popping for a wide variety of sportsfish, with some that are unstoppable yep, you’ll get spooled!

These species include, Marlin, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Mackerel, Cobia, Giant Trevally, Coral Trout, Dogtooth Tuna, Job Fish, Red Bass and much, much more.

This trip will see three boats used, REELISTIC, POPPING MAD AND SIR REEL as the mother ship.

TROLLING – MARLIN, TUNA, DOGTOOTH, WAHOO, MACKEREL, MAHI MAHI.

On board a Reelistic, a 48ft Riveria we will be trolling for Giant Black Marlin, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi and Dog Tooth Tuna which can be huge highlight of the trip.

The boat is a beautifully appointed vessel specifically designed for Australian Marlin Fishing in the North Queensland / Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea waters. It has absolutely everything needed for Clients to enjoy some of the best Giant Black Marlin Fishing Trips on the East Coast of Australia. From light tackle to heavy tackle marlin fishing to other game fish including popper fishing for Giant Trevally and jigging for Dogtooth Tuna and other species.

JIGGING: DOGTOOTH TUNA

Each boat has the ability to be used for Jigging.This technique uses the elite of tackle requiring 100lb braid rigged on Shimano

Stella 20,000’s and Daiwa Dogfights just to stop some of

these monster Dogtooth Tuna, Some can’t be stopped!

The by-catch is also amazing, coral trout, GT’s, Wahoo,

Spanish Mackerel, Jobfish and the list continues. Jigging

is a high speed technique used to excite fish and get them hungry enough to chase down the jig hitting it like you’ve felt never before.

POPPING: GIANT TREVALLY

The ultimate in fishing for Giant Trevally is popping. Casting a surface popper to the edge of a reef only to be annihilated by a big GT trying to take it back to the reef. With locked up drags, bent rods and howling reels, this is a style of fishing you just have to experience at least once in your lifetime.

There is no doubt, these fish can crush egos in seconds but when on board, you’ll never forget the battle, power, sight, size and joy to release of a Giant Trevally.

THE TRIP:

DATE BEGIN:

January 31st fly into Townsville and get

transferred to boat. Unpack, relax and

rig up for the following days fishing.

Travel overnight to fishing destination

(Flinders Reef). In the morning begin our first days fishing. Each day, Jig for Dogtooth, Troll for Marlin, Dogtooth etc: pop for GT or just bottom bounce. It is your choice as to what boat to choose for what style of fishing you want to do. Each day return to the mother ship for dinner, meal, ale and bed.

TRIP END:

February 6th Fly home in the morning, arrive in Melbourne.

*The trip will consist of 5 full days fishing (Travel to and from the reef is not “fishing time”).

*Prices based on $1.40 per litre fuel current at Breakwater marina. A levy would need to be added if this was to change significantly.
