I received a phone call from a good friend, James who asked if I would like to head to Lake Eildon for a spot of trolling.
After leaving home at 4am, we arrived at the lake only to be greeted with a magnificent sun rise and slight cool morning breeze.
Launching at the Eildon wall ramp, we headed north to the Delatite Arm. Quickly deploying a selection of hard body lures including Yo-Zuri Pins minnows and Duel Hardcore Minnows we began to troll.
The setup was quite simple, flatlinning three lures out the back at different intervals aloud them to dive to their maximum depths. In this case the lures were reaching 2 meters.
Working the edges of the timber line, I noticed that each strike and hook-up was when the boat was traveling at 5 knots. This set the benchmark for the day as each time the boat was back to it's ideal trolling speed, a reel would scream.
The end results were a nice selection of both Rainbow and Brown trout along with a few redfin thrown in the mix.
Certainly a nice day to be on the water and with the results we got simply by flatlining, I can highly recommend heading to Eildon if your looking for a fishing option when the winds are blowing over the saltwater.
